Portal 11 Gallery presents Olesya Tkachenko’s first personal exhibition. 14.01.23 – 12.02.23.
There are the relationship between life and death, the meaningful and the senseless, the search for inner answers about happiness, joy, fear and fate, an attempt to find the thin border that divides life into “before” and “after” are embodied in her unique technique of textile painting.
“My panels are textile paintings made of natural materials – wool, silk, hemp fibers. They actually become the material of painting and resemble a stroke, a graphic stroke and a contour. It’s not just a textile, for me it’s an art object, it’s my conceptual painting on a wool canvas.
In my work, I look for ways to reproduce the feeling of natural textures. Using woolen threads to create an image, nevertheless, I try to reproduce quite real emotional feelings from the contemplation of the objects of the natural environment surrounding us,” says Olesya about her technique.
Olesya Tkachenko was born in 1977. In 1998, she graduated from the Luhansk Art School with a specialty of artist-designer. In 2005, she received the qualification level “Specialist” in fabric painting at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Department of Textiles. In 2011, she received a Master’s degree and acquired the qualifications of a textile artist, researcher, and teacher. From 2006 to 2015, she was a teacher at the college of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design (KNUTD). Since 2015, she has been the head of his own art studio “Yaskravo”.
She works in the field of painting, drawing, design, decorative and applied techniques, artistic textiles. She is engaged in teaching activities, takes part in art and design international, national and regional exhibitions, competitions, scientific and methodical conferences. Her artworks are in private collections in Ukraine.
Since 2014, Olesya has participated in more than 30 exhibitions and biennials in Italy, Turkey, Poland and Ukraine. She is also a laureate of the international exhibition-competition UkrainianArtWeek (nomination “Best textile painting and panel”), the 5th All-Ukrainian Triennial of Artistic Textiles competition (nomination “For the originality of the author’s technique”), the exhibition “From the Earth to the Sun” (for the use of the latest technologies in modern textiles), XI International Exhibition-Competition of Modern Art (1st place in the nomination “Textile painting and panel”).
