JACQUES HNIZDOVSKY (1915-1985)

Famous Ukrainian and American painter, graphic artist, potter, art expert. His art heritage counts hundreds paintings and more than 300 prints (xylography, etching, linocut). Two of his works decorated John Kennedy’s cabinet in the White house. Graphical works of Hnizdovsky are kept in several museum and private collections, including Nelson Rockefeller’s collection.

Maria Prymachenko

She was born in the village of Bolotnia (now Kyiv region). A vivid representative of “folk primitive” or “naive art”. In 1936, the artist was invited to the experimental workshops of the State Ukrainian Museum in Kyiv (now the National Art Museum of Ukraine). In the same year, she received a 1st degree Diploma for participating in an exhibition of folk art. Works were exhibited at exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Laureate of the Republican Prize named after T. G. Shevchenko (1966). People’s Artist of Ukraine (1988). 2009 was recognized by UNESCO as the year of Maria Prymachenko.

The image of the animal world is distinguished by fantastic, fairy-tale, folklore motifs. 1936 became a significant year in the artist’s career. Then an All-Ukrainian exhibition of folk art was held, where her “Beasts from the Swamp” was exhibited. Maria became famous. She was awarded a 1st degree diploma. Soon her works appeared at the All-Union Exhibition in Moscow, and in 1937 at the International Exhibition in Paris. And then in Warsaw, Sofia, Montreal, Prague. Articles were published in periodicals and magazines. Museums began to buy the artist’s works. Marc Chagall was so fascinated by her work that he himself began to draw strange creatures similar to the beasts depicted by Maria.

AKSININ OLEKSANDR (1949–1985)

Aksinin was one of the brightest representatives of non-conformism in Lviv. For a unique graphical talent, the artist is called “Lviv Durrer” and “Piranezi of the XX century”. His works are kept in Lviv National Art Gallery, The Art Museum of Estonia, in numerous private collections.

TURETSKYY IVAN (b. 1956)

Born in 1956 in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) in the family repressed by Soviet regime. Graduated from Lviv Applied Arts School named after I. Trush. In 1982 graduated from Lviv State Applied and Decorative Arts Institute. Lives and works in Lviv.
Ivan Turetskyy is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. He is a co-founder of the Ukrainian Heraldic Union. Ivan Turetskyy is a famous Ukrainian artist, graphic artist, heraldist. He is co-author of a small National Emblem of Ukraine and author of the current National Emblem of Lviv. Ivan Turetskyy is a true artist and a
participant of numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. His works are kept in collections of Ukrainian museums and private collections in Europe, Asia and America.
His works are exhibited in Singapore, London, Kyiv Art galleries and were displayed on Luxemburg Art Fair 2019. His works are in numerous collections of Ukrainian museums and private collections in Europe, Asia and the USA. The painting “Fragments II (Italian Diary)” was sold at Sotheby’s auction in New York on June 23, 2020. Among works by Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Henre Lotte and Robert Marc at the Cubism and Beyond auction. In addition to painting and graphics, he works creatively in various genres of applied art.

KOVAL OLEKSIY (b. 1977)

Born in Kyiv. Since 2000 the artist has worked in the monumental arts: around 100 works in Ukraine and abroad – frescoes, mosaics, murals. He uses copper, bronze, silver, gemstones for his works. In 2018 he presented his works in Toronto and Chicago. His creations are kept in private collections in Ukraine, Italy, Croatia, Bulgaria, Nepal, India, China, USA and Canada.

RADKO KATERYNA (b. 1974)

The artist was born in Korosten. She is a member of the National Union of the Artist of Ukraine. Works with easel graphics and book graphics, oil paintings.

OLENA KULCHITSKA (1877–1967)

Famous Ukrainian graphic artist, painter, tutor.
She graduated from Lviv arts and crafts college (1901), School of applied and decorative arts in Vienna (1903-1908). In 1908 the artist was honored with a First prize of the Chamber of commerce and industry competition in Austria.
O. Kulchitska illustrated numerous Ukrainian canonical writers’ works. She participated in several exhibitions, was a tutor in Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute named after I. Fedorov.
Her heritage comprises more than 4000 art works.

RAPAI OLGA (1929-2012)

Golda, which was a real name of the artist, was born in the repressed family. She also was exiled, and shared the fate of her contemporaries.
However the world of her ceramics is a miraculous and unique combination of traditions and tales, mythology and everyday life. It is a colorful place where humans, animals, birds and fantastic creatures live in peace.
Her works are kept in famous Ukrainian and foreign museums and in private collections.

DELAUNAY SONIA (1885-1979)

The artist was born in Ukraine, but became famous in Europe. Her talent was incredibly versatile: she painted pictures, created clothes and shoes designs, created theatrical costumes, made auto customizing, drawn books illustrations, weaved carpets. In 1961 she became known as the first woman, whose works were represented in the Louvre.

URBAN MYKHAILO

M. Urban is a painter and sculptor constructivist born in Galychyna. Studied at Chicago Art Institute and other high school in Chicago. Since 1965 has taken part in group exhibitions in universities, museums and galleries in the USA. Held few personal exhibitions including the one in the Ukrainian Institute if Modern Art in Chicago (1973). Urban creates constructivist abstract sculptures easily arranged in space, cultivates geometrical forms in painting.
M. Urban is a co-founder of Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, where at varying times were conducted sentinel exhibitions of O. Arkhypenko, J. Hnizdovsky, K. Milonadis, U. Soloviy and M. Urban.

Maria Levitska (b. 1955)

Maria Levitska is a theatrical production designer and costume designer.
Born in 1955 in Kyiv. Maria Levitska graduated from Kyiv State Art Institute (the Department of Theatre Set Design of the Faculty of Painting and the workshop of the People’s Artist of Ukraine, prof. D. Lider). She used to work as a production and clothes designer at the Dovzhenko Film Studio.
Since 1989 Maria Levitska has been working as the Art Director General of the National Opera of Ukraine.
She is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine, a corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine, a laureate of the Shevchenko National Prize (2003), theatre arts prize “Kyivska Pektoral” and “The Person of the Year – 2000” prize, a bearer of the Order of Princess Olga of a 3rd Class. She was awarded the highest state award of the Italian Republic, which can be awarded to foreign citizens – the Order of the Star of Italy (2016).
Maria Levitska has also staged numerous plays in drama and music theatres of Ukraine, especially on the stage of the Lesya Ukrainka National Theatre of Russian Drama. She also produced operas, ballets and drama plays in foreign theatres.The plays including sets designed by – Maria Levitska were great success during the tour of the National Opera of Ukraine in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Japan and other countries.
Paintings by Maria Levitska are kept in the State Museum of Theatre, Music and Film Arts of Ukraine, the Bachrushin Theatre Museum (Moscow), and in private collections all around the globe.

Malevich Kazimir (1879 – 1935)

An outstanding avant-garde artist, founder of Suprematism, one of the founders of cubofuturism, art theorist.

He was born in 1879 in Kyiv. The artist received his first art education at the Kyiv Art School under the direction of Mykola Pymonenko. Later, Kazimir Malevich moved to Moscow, where he continued to improve his skills in the art school and in the studio of F. Rerberg (1905-1910).
Malevich’s first paintings combined the principles of Cubism, Futurism and Expressionism. In 1915, Kazimir Malevich initiated a new direction in art – Suprematism, which radically changed the history of art. On December 7, 1915, he exhibited for the first time the painting “Black Square on a White Background”, which became an icon of abstract art.
For several years Malevich taught at the Vitebsk Art School (1919-1922). Then he headed the Institute of Art Culture in Leningrad (1923 – 1927). Malevich and like-minded people formed a group of avant-garde artists who spread the idea of a new vision of art.
In 1927–1930 he taught at the Kyiv Art Institute, where Fedor Krychevsky, Mykhailo Boychuk, Viktor Palmov, Vadym Meller, Oleksandr Bohomazov, and Volodymyr Tatlin worked at that time.

Oleksii Vladimirov (b. 1957)

Oleksii Vladimirov is a Ukrainian artist born in the Kuban. He graduated in 1984
Kyiv State Art Institute. Since 1987 – a member of the NSHU. The sculptor’s works are presented in leading galleries and museums of Ukraine. In addition, the master’s works are in private collections in Sweden, Austria, England, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy and the United States. In his work, Oleksii Vladimirov continues the exquisite traditions of sculpture formed over the centuries and brings them to a new level in contemporary art.

Pavlo Makov (b. 1958)

Pavlo Makov was born in 1958. He graduated from the Crimean Art College, Painting Department (Simferopol, Ukraine) in 1979, Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1978 and Kharkiv Art and Industrial Institute (Graphic department) in 1984. Since 1988 he is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, since 1994 – is a member of the Royal Society of Painters-Printmakers (London, England) and a correspondent member of the Ukrainian Art Academy, since 2006. Pavlo Makov is a participant and winner of many graphic art exhibitions, among them VI International Biennale of Print and Drawing (Taipei, Taiwan, 1993), “Osaka Triennale 94″ (Osaka, Japan, 1994), “National Triennale of Print 97″ (Kyiv, Ukraine, 1997), “International Print Triennale” and others. In 2009 he was awarded with the Silver Medal of the Ukrainian Art Academy. The artist’s works are in museums collections in Ukraine, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, the USA and other countries.
