Gallery Portal 11 presents “Eye In The Labyrinth” personal exhibition by Viktor Goryaev. 23.05. – 29.06.2025.
In every painting, there is an eye. The one that observes, and the one that is hidden. It is not only the artist’s gaze—it is also the mirror of the viewer. From medieval symbolism to meditative abstraction, these images touch upon ancient archetypes and speak of the modern human being, searching for themselves within an endless inner mosaic.
This project is a visual journey through symbolism, archetypes, and the inner dimensions of consciousness. It immerses the viewer in a multilayered reality where the external world intertwines with the inner one. Here, the “eye” becomes a kind of compass in the labyrinth of meanings: it watches the viewer just as the viewer watches it.
The exhibition blends baroque aesthetics with esoteric structures, creating an emotionally charged space where the viewer finds themselves in a maze of meanings and signs. From the portrait of a woman in a Venetian mask with a raven—symbolizing mystery and transition—to geometric compositions with the all-seeing eye dissolving into endless patterns, each painting becomes a fragment of a vast metaphysical mosaic.
“The Eye in the Labyrinth” is an invitation to dialogue: with oneself, with the subconscious, with the eternal questions of human existence. It is a path where every step is a discovery, and every inward gaze becomes a new journey into the depths of one’s own being.
Viktor Goryaev was born on March 1, 1966, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He received his artistic education at a children’s art school (1977–1981), a higher art school (1981–1983), and later at the Art and Graphics Department of the Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical Institute, where he subsequently taught decorative and applied arts (1991–1993). Since 1993, he has dedicated himself exclusively to creative work.
Goryaev’s artistic practice includes painting, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, as well as original fashion and accessory design. In his paintings and enchanting panels, Viktor Goryaev presents his own vision of the beauty of humanity and the world. By combining realistic and decorative painting styles and experimenting with various techniques and materials, he has developed a unique and recognizable artistic language that sets him apart from other artists.
