Gallery Portal 11 presents exhibition project by Alexander Lidagovsky «Artist and Model». 19.02.2020 – 02.03.2020.
Alexander Lidagovsky was born in 1961 in the city Huliaipole of Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine.
1982-1987 – studied at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Currently lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Today for an artist working with a model is more a meditative practice than a requirement of the profession. Time speeds up the course, and life, as always, prevents it from escaping from the world in the crystal castle of own creativity.
When reality invading in the form of medical diagnosis into the idyllic picture of the Artist and Model, the categories of life and death become the main categories of aesthetics. Then we realize that not matter and space, but time is our only reality.
The project is essentially the antithesis, an inversion of the ancient parable of Pygmalion and Galatea. The central object of the project – “AntiPygmalion” (sculpture and video performance). An author’s gesture designed to show that only by symbolically turning a real girl into a statue, realizing the true intent of the creator – to present the eternal life of the image, to become equal with God, the Artist will have the opportunity “revive” the real Model.
The project is charitable. The proceeds from the sale of the works presented at the exhibition will go to medical care and operation abroad, which is urgently needed for the model of the artist – Ksenia Sokolovska.
